Meet our Team

Caring for and enjoying a place as beautiful as Brown’s Lake requires great responsibility from all our members and our dynamic team. We have a dedicated lake Board of Directors, a camp hosts, gatekeepers, and maintenance volunteers who work behind the scenes and lake-side so we all may enjoy the lake. The board meets several times a year to manage lake operations and to plan for the years to come. It is no easy feat but is also a labor of love and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve our lake members and to be summertime stewards of this zen-like sanctuary we call Brown’s Lake.

Lead Gatekeeper and Camp Host

Mary, Head Gatekeeper

Mary has been coming to the lake since it was open to the public in the late 1980s and has since become a member and our lead gatekeeper. As a first-grade teacher and all-around radical person, Mary is firm but fun – welcoming all, while making sure everyone is doing their part to follow the rules, so we can continue to enjoy our happy place.

Our Board

Rachael, Logistics Coordinator

Rachael first laid eyes upon the lake as a young child. She joined the board in approximately 2014 with a gentle transition into the secretary position over the next couple of years. She manages the secretarial duties- everything from paperwork to porta-potties as well as the volleyball tournament during our annual BBQ. You can spot her at the lake with her two little girls (Ember and Fern) and husband (Sky). She loves that her kids have the same fondness of the lake as she does- where, like so many others, they have already made such wonderful memories.

Leslie, Memberships Chair and Founding Member

Leslie first jumped into Brown’s Lake in 1977 while visiting her friend. Two years later she escaped California and has been jumping in every summer since. She served on the Brown’s Lake board during its founding and development and over the years has watched as membership guidelines were developed, and docks, volleyball courts, shade structures, tables, swings, fish, sand, and a supervised campground host were added. Leslie is delighted to be a part of the evolution of this beautiful Chewelah treasure that just keeps getting better and better.

Mike, President

Mike has agreed to return to the Board as our President in 2026, has been a member since 1986 (We’ll let you do the math!), and a part of the lake community since the early days—back when a day at the lake cost just $2 per carload. Joining the association as soon as it was established, Mike has remained deeply connected ever since. What means the most is seeing generations of families enjoying the lake together—especially time spent there with Cathy, their children, and now their grandchildren.

Amanda, Vice President

Amanda is our devoted campside representative, supporter, and recluse; preferring the quiet side of the lake and all its glory. Her dad learned how to swim at the lake as a young kid and shared his love of the lake with her in 1998 when her family moved to Chewelah. Amanda served as a gatekeeper for 5 years and has since been a board member over 5 years. She knows everything that goes on around here and is always willing to step in and help.

Sheena, Marketing and Communications Chair

Sheena’s role at the lake has evolved since 1997 from guest to gatekeeper and member to gatekeeper again. In 2017 she became a board member and now she has taken on the role of marketing director – all the way from Nebraska. One thing that hasn’t changed over all these years is her love for Brown’s Lake. It truly is her happy place.

Kassi, Board Secretary

Kassi’s first experience at Brown’s Lake was back in her high school days, in the mid 90’s. It holds a special place in her heart with memories of friends, swimming, volleyball, and sunshine. After moving away for a time, and returning back home with her husband, Eland, she is happy to find herself spending time there again. It is even better this time around as she is excited to share her love of the lake with her daughter, Aralynn.  She looks forward to this new chapter of life and serving on the board.

Alyssa, Board Treasurer

Alyssa has lived in Valley for 16 years. She and her family – her husband and two children, Mia and Cal, who attend Jenkins Jr/Sr High – started coming to Browns about 5 years ago and they love the quiet, the friendships, the lack of technology, and the commitment of the members to take care of the property. You'll most likely find her in the BACK, next to the big shade cloth, probably eating chips and salsa!

Lake Owner

Chuck Singer, Jr., Landowner

Our beloved lake is owned by Chuck Singer, Jr. who graciously leases his land to our organization year after year. We love working with Chuck just as much as we enjoyed his father and we are forever grateful for their generosity.
